    Biographical Dictionary of American Business Leaders:

    Standard & Poor's Register of Corporations, Directors & Executives:

    Vol 1. alphabetic listing of corporation name, address, officers, products, SIC code(s), sales, and number of employees.
    Vol 2. has brief biographies of executives.
    Vol 3. includes geographical and industry (SIC arranged) indexes.

    D&B Million Dollar Directory:

    Company information is alphabetically arranged and indexes list companies geographically and by industry (SIC arranged).

    Directory of Corporate Affiliations:
    [Ref. HG4057 .A219]   5 vols.
    The main section of this directory lists parent companies, followed by their divisions and subsidiaries. Information listed includes: address, telephone, assets, earnings, liabilities, number of employees, products, and officers. Similar information is available for the subsidiaries.

    Annual Reports to Shareholders:
    Sprague Library does not collect the annual reports of companies.
    Most of these can be found online by using a search engine like

    Compustat - Research Insight:
    A program that allows the creation of custom financial reports & comparisons for companies and between industries as well.
    Available in the Sprague Library Reference area (Table D) and Partridge Hall 210.

    Edgar Online:
    Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings of publicly traded corporations.

    Mergent Financial Manuals:

      These manuals list several years worth of financial balance sheets for over 10,000 companies.

    Hoover's Company Records:
    Basic information about major US and international companies which includes the following: Financials, history, officers, subsidiaries, competitors and products.

    Standard & Poor's Stock Reports:

    Separate volumes for New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, and NASDAQ. The two page report for each company includes its activities, finances, forecasts and beta.


Company Information:  Private

    Financial information about privately owned companies is difficult to find because they are not required to submit financial documentation to the Securities & Exchange Commission.  Limited information may be found by searching business journal and news sources, a company's web site, and directories such as these:

    Annual overview of U.S. industries. Each chapter gives a description of the industry; it's growth, statistics and projections for the future.

    Value Line Investment Survey:

    North American Industry Classification System:

    NAICS is supposed to supercede SIC. Not widely used.

    Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States:
    Tariff rates for goods imported into the United States.
