Holds
Eligible patrons (i.e., MSU faculty,
staff, and students) can place Holds on books that are available
(items whose location is ‘Stacks’) and books currently checked out
to other patrons (items whose status is ‘Material has been
checked/charged out’) at the Circulation Desk or online. To place
Holds online, you must first perform a search in the
Sprague Library Catalog. At the ‘Search Results’ list display,
click on the ‘Full Details’ button to the left of the items you want
to place a Hold on. Then, click on the ‘Continue’ button and select
the ‘Hold’ button that displays to the right of the ‘Full View from
Catalog’ display. Enter your user ID number (i.e., the barcode on
your MSU ID card), or alternate ID number (i.e., employee or student
ID number) and your PIN number. Afterwards, click on the ‘Place
Hold’ button, then on the ‘Continue’ button. The system will advise
you that a Hold has been placed on the desired material. Click on
the ‘OK’ button to end. Patrons will be notified when desired items
are available for their use. Items on Hold will be kept at the
Circulation Desk until claimed for ten (10) days, after which they
will be returned to the collection.
Patrons can also cancel Holds online
by selecting the ‘My Library Card’ link on the
Sprague Library Catalog Web page. Proceed by highlighting the
‘Review My Account’ button. At the ‘Review My Account’ screen,
enter your user ID (i.e., the barcode number on your MSU ID card),
or alternate ID number (i.e., employee or student ID number), and
your PIN number. Then, click on the ‘Display User Information’ and
‘Continue’ buttons respectively. Mark the Holds you want to cancel
in the check box that displays to the left of the title you no
longer want and click on the ‘Cancel Selected Holds’ and ‘Continue’
buttons respectively. The system will advise you that your Holds
have been cancelled.
Recalls
The Library can recall books in
circulation if needed for Reserves or requested by another patron.
Patrons can request that the Library recall books only at the
Circulation Desk. Recalled books must be returned without delay.
Failure to return books that have been recalled will result in the
suspension of borrowing privileges.
