How can I suggest library materials?
Sprague Library depends on faculty to help build a collection of the most useful books to support the university community.  All requests will be reviewed by the Acquisitions Department Head.  Suggested materials are reviewed by the Library based on availability of funds, pertinence to the collection and the University curriculum.

Faculty are encouraged to develop the collection in their respective subject fields based on their special knowledge, reviews in scholarly journals, and awareness of the curriculum.  Faculty are advised to contact the librarian who is the liaison to their department (Click here to see the Liaison List).

Recommendations for the purchase of books and media should be sent on request forms available from the department via interoffice mail or submitted online (see links below):

Book Request Form
Media Request Form

A requested item which is priced at $300.00 or more should be submitted with a justification to the Acquisitions or Multimedia Resources Department.

Can items be donated to Sprague Library?
The Library accepts donated items if they are of scholarly value and materials that support our curriculum.  However, items may be rejected on the basis of poor physical condition, outdated content, inappropriate academic level, or subject focus.  The Sprague Library reserves the right to determine which of the donated items to add to its collection and to dispose of those items which it decides not to keep.  We do not accept textbooks, popular fiction novels, magazines, journals, or other periodicals.  We cannot provide the estimated value of gift books for tax purposes nor can we provide the estimated value of a donated collection.  The Library cannot offer a "pick up" service for delivery of items.  The Library does offer a letter of acknowledgement if the donor wishes to have one sent to their mailing address.

Is there a limit on how much money an academic department can spend?
There is no fixed limit by department.  When the budget is spent, usually the end of April, requests are still accepted, but they are held for the next fiscal year starting in July.

How can faculty request magazines, journals, and other periodical materials?
These should be submitted to the Periodicals Department.

Can faculty order textbooks that are used in classes?
The Library does not, as a rule, order textbooks.  Students are responsible for their own textbooks.  Supplying textbooks for students is beyond the Library's capability.  We do order selected textbooks if the content is important outside of its classroom use, as in some scientific subjects.

How many copies of a book can be ordered?
We order one copy of each book requested.  In the case of reserve reading for a large class up to three copies can be ordered.
