What Is An Email
Alerting Service?
Many of our
databases and electronic journal packages offer a service in which you can
be alerted, via email, of the table of contents (TOCs) of a new issue of a
journal or of new content added to a database. Some databases also allow you to create a profile of a search
you would like run periodically and then have the results of the search
emailed to you.
Below is a list of databases
that allow you to
receive email alerts of new table of contents (TOCs) and/or search results via
email. Sprague Library may not provide the full text of some of the
articles.
At the end of this page are
instructions on ways to increase your ability to view the emailed alerts from
off-campus.

multimedia, government documents and other new resources added to the
Library's collection. Click
here to see the latest New
Acquisitions list. At the end of the page, you will see instructions
on how to sign up to receive an email telling you when a new issue of the
New Acquisitions list is available.
Note on
off-campus access
In many cases, the email
you receive may not allow you to access the full text of a journal when you
are off-campus because you will not be forwarded to the MSU proxy server for
authentication. On-campus access will not be a problem, if the Library
subscribes to the electronic version of the journal.
You still may be able to
access the full text from off-campus by inserting the URL below in front of
the link to the article. This will direct you to the proxy
server, where you will be asked to authenticate via your MSU netID, as you
do when you use our databases from off-campus. This works if the URL
of the article is in a URL domain already recognized by the proxy server.
When it does not, you get an error message.
The stem to put in
front of the article URL is: htttp://ezproxy.montclair.edu:2048/login?url=
