Highlights

Technology
- Migrated
from the DRA library system to the Sirsi Unicorn system. All departments participated in the
planning and implementation of this major project, led by Mary Mallery,
Associate Dean of Technical Services.
Librarians and staff were trained to use different aspects of the
system. The Library continues it relationship
with BCCLS as the service provider for the Sirsi Unicorn system.
- Tripled
the use of the Electronic Reserves system. The ability to read materials electronically has been very
well received by faculty and students.
- Installed
ImageScan on two (2) computers in the Multimedia Resources Department to
allow patrons to download and e-mail materials found in microfilm and
microfiche formats
- Upgraded
players in the Multimedia Resources Listening Rooms to DVDs. Installed high-quality audio equipment
in one (1) Listening Room. Locks
on Listening Rooms doors were installed.
- Upgraded
browsers and operating systems on staff and public computers (ongoing).
Services
- Implemented
a new Corporate Borrower policy to allow corporations borrowing privileges
for a fee.
Collection Management
- Conducted
a comprehensive review of subscriptions to identify titles that could be
cancelled and cancelled nearly $30,000 in reference serials, duplicate
subscriptions, microform subscriptions, and print subscriptions (700
titles) for which there is access online through aggregate index/abstract
databases such as ABI/Inform or EBSCO Academic Search Premier.
Grants
- Received
a grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation via the President for the
purchase of equipment for the Student Technology Resources Room.
Campus Collaboration
- Co-sponsored
a film series with Global Education – “The Many Faces of the Muslim
World.” Anita Daniel, Head of
Multimedia Resources Department, arranged for the showing of the films and
assisted in contacting speakers.
- Prepared
brochures for two Sokol lectures.
MeiLing Chow, Nicole Cooke, Anita Daniel and Randal Cain
contributed.
- Participated
in edTexpo, including a presentation organized by Luis Rodriguez ,
Associate Dean of Public Services, “Supporting Students’ Technology
Innovation: A Collaborative Effort between a CEHS Faculty Member,
Information Technology and the Library.”
- Worked
with IT to develop service to loan forty (40) laptops to campus members
from the Multimedia Resources Center, with staffing by IT student
employees.
- Purchased
equipment and developed services for the Student Technology Resources Room
(Room 029) – for faculty and students working on media projects and
presentations. Staffed by an IT
graduate assistant.
- Curriculum
Resources Center. Nicole Cooke is
working with Gregg Festa to deselect items from the collection.
- Prepared
materials for self-study reports and met with visiting committee and
accreditation committee team members.
Librarian and Staff
Development
- A
number of librarians and classified staff attended local, regional,
national, and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. Several librarians gave presentations
and/or hold office in organizations.
- An
in-house class was given on EXCEL with a follow-up consultation session,
taught by IT staff.
- Several
librarians and staff attended an orientation tour and presentation at the
New York Public Library Schomburg Center.
Library Science
Interns
- Hosted
two (2) library science interns from Rutgers University, School of Communication,
Information and Library Science.
